Fishing Report, Chinook, Halibut, Where to buy marine gas – Ucluelet BC
Latest fishing report from Ucluelet
We are coming into the busiest part of the season.
Chinook
Chinook salmon fishing has been good right outside the harbour and along the shore including Wya point, Great Bear, Beg and Chrowe. Both 3″ and 4″ spoons are working from Silver Horde and Gibbs. White hutchies are working in areas where there are squid. There have been a few days were live squid fishing has been good in the afternoons. This is the most fun way to catch Chinook salmon.
There have been lots of squid, needlefish and small herring so small spoon, needfish hutchies and white hutchies have been working well.
Coho
Coho fishing has been pretty good at times inside Barkley Sound though Coho move around so finding consistency is the biggest challenge. Very small spoons are best for Coho.
Halibut
Halibut fishing has been very good in many spots.
Halibut have been biting well on salmon bellies, grubs and herring. If you pack all 3 you should have success anywhere you decide to set down.
Some spots are faster than others right now but almost all spots are producing. As August rolls in expect the halibut to be mostly at Big Bank or other spots further offshore.
You can also check out fishing packages available at https://www.salmoneye.net/site/fishing-packages.html. We have very little ocean view accommodation but still have some cabins available.
Insider tip:
If you are bringing your own boat make sure you fill up at the Coop before launching. The fuel dock charges about a 40 cent premium to buy gas and it can only be premium gas, not regular or mid-grade. Most of the charters refuse to go to the fuel dock for various reasons including the high prices.
Below are some pics from the past couple of weeks.
