Clayoquot Action – More Precious Than Gold

March 4th, 2014

Ucluelet Botanical Gardens Ecolodge

Clayoquot Action invites you to attend a lively evening of discussion. Saya Masso, Tla-o-qui-aht First Nations Resource Manager will provide an update on efforts to prevent Imperial from mining the Tranquil Tribal Park. Jessica Clogg from West Coast Environmental Law will discuss the move to reform BC’s archaic mining laws, and Ucluelet Mayor Josie Osborne will describe the role Ucluelet has played so far. Come find out what you can do to keep Clayoquot mine-free!

British Columbia’s Mineral Tenure Act has remained substantially unchanged since the 1800s. For over 150 years mining activity has been given priority over virtually all other land uses, and generated conflict throughout the province. Even here in Clayoquot Sound—Imperial Metals was recently granted a permit to explore for gold in the Tranquil Tribal Park, despite opposition from Tla-o-qui-aht First Nations. It’s time to modernize BC’s outdated legislation in a way that ensures the full range of interests—including social, cultural, ecological and economic—are given fair consideration. Suggested donation $5
